Meredith Davenport | Theater of War
RIT City Art Space
280 E Main St., 1st Floor
Sep 4, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In Theater of War, Meredith Davenport documents a community that reenacts battles and missions of foreign wars in regional spaces. The work is a reminder of war storytelling traditions, with the twist of contemporary news media narratives and their reinterpretation by way of performance, photographs, and video. The exhibition will be on view through September 27 and is part of the RIT Faculty in Focus series.

Meredith Davenport is assistant professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology. As a freelance photojournalist, she has covered human rights issues around the world, ranging from the rise of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh for the New York Times Magazine to Hugo Chavez’s impact on Venezuela for National Geographic. Her book, Theater of War, examines her photographs in depth and was recently published by the University of Chicago Press.
