Visit RoCo this First Friday for an immersive exhibition featuring photographs by Shannon Taggart and an installation utilizing sound by Matthew Ostrowski. Both artists’ works explore the intersection of Spiritualism and technology.

Ostrowski’s installation of telegraphs connects the origins of long-distance communication (the telegraph) and communication with the dead (Spiritualism), which occurred at the same time. He uses modern computer algorithms and quotes to initiate a conversation between Samuel F. B. Morse and Kate Fox, individuals responsible for the birth of these methods of communication.

Taggart’s photography of Spiritualist mediums goes back nearly two decades. This new series of photographs of séances were taken over Zoom, Skype, and FaceTime, acknowledging the belief of Spiritualist mediums that spirit communication cannot be bound by time and space.

This exhibition continues through November 13.
