Curated by INANNA GALLERY

July 4th, 2026 marks the 250th year since the founding of the nation called the United States of America. To commemorate this historic moment, a group of American women/artists/poets/anthropologists/dancers/ filmmakers/vessels/voyeurs/extraordinaires will embark on a pilgrimage north and pay homage to one of our founding cities as part of Inanna Gallery’s first residency.

The residency will be initiated through a performance by Katya June 21-24 integrated by the group through collective art making June 27-July 3.

For 3 days Katya will sit in silence. No speaking, writing, or reading. A meditative act that helps to purge the mind and body.

On the 4th day, she will sit in the gallery at Subsector and write for 12 hours straight on a website accessible to the audience.

Everything will be live-streamed.

WEAPONS FORMED

In the context of July 4th, the Weapons will explore the tensions between the wild//the civil, the outside// the inside, the feminine//the masculine, chaos//order.

For an entire week, through a mixed itinerary of natural excursions and studio time, the group will make a body of work to be displayed at the opening during Rochester’s monthly First Fridays.

Join us on July 3rd for the opening of
