Analysis of the Self: Paintings by Todd Beers
Lumiere Photo
100 College Ave.
Mar 6, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The exhibition consists of 26 paintings, most which are figurative in nature. In almost every case, the depiction of the subject’s face is, if nothing else, intense. The labored application of the pigment and the pressure of the line work underscore a certain neurotic quality. And, in every work, it is the same neurotic quality. Each work is unselfconscious in execution and sincerity. Leaving no room for creative pretentions. Yet, they also show an enormous inner tulmut, with a heart far from being embittered. Always self-conscious, and sometimes self-destructive. Searching for ruminative sustainability of the spirit. Beers welcomes the viewer to sit with these dualities, the neurotic and the search for calm. Opening reception music provided by The 45 Kid and craft cocktails by Andy Bewley. This exhibition continues through March 28.
