Wicked Reserve has joined Rochester’s iconic First Fridays and we’ve opened our doors as a brand-new venue in the Neighborhood of the Arts. Each month, our dispensary will transform into a creative gallery space, showcasing original work from talented local artists.
Stop in, explore fresh perspectives, meet the creators behind the pieces, and experience cannabis and culture coming together under one roof. Whether you’re here to shop, browse, or connect with the community, First Fridays at Wicked Reserve is your new spot for art, conversation, and good energy.
September Highlighted Artists: Dave Hickson and Connor McLaine
Dave Hickson: “As a retired psychotherapist in my late 60s I decided to start drawing, then oil painting, during Covid. I enjoy many artists, but especially the Canadian Group of Seven, the Russian Ilya Repin, and Edward Hopper.
All of my adult life I’ve thought of myself as artistic but I had to come to the conclusion, a few years back, that being “artistic” requires dedication and skill, not just sentiment. So, I have set out deliberately to acquire the required skill with a daily willingness to learn and struggle.
When people talk about talent, I don’t believe in talent alone so much as I believe in daily commitment to the goal. As I develop my own style, I aim toward art that creates suggestion, ambiguity, and a sense of mystery. Thank you for having a look at my artwork.”
Connor McLaine: “My artwork is driven by the desire to bring back awareness and attention to our home, the Earth. Without the Earth, we as humans do not exist; and at this stage in our history as humans, it’s vital that we reconnect with her, and start to actively treat her differently. Our future depends on this choice.” You can view Connor’s website at sunnymclaineartandphoto.com
