Charles Coté is a Rochester-based artist and poet whose visual work explores attention, repetition, and presence. Working primarily with ink and watercolor, he uses simple structures—circles, grids, and returning marks—to create spaces of quiet containment. These works are not intended to illustrate ideas or emotions, but to record the act of staying with experience as it unfolds.

Coté’s visual practice runs parallel to his writing, offering a nonverbal way to remain present without explanation or resolution. The images invite slow looking and reflection, allowing color, line, and rhythm to carry what words sometimes cannot.
