“We are two travelers on an artistic journey”, writes Joe Sotelo of Convergence. “We have both chosen this city as our home and we document it, its beauty, and its flaws for others to see and appreciate”. Both Joe Sotelo (originally from California), and Michael D’Avignon (originally from North Tonawanda, NY) moved to Rochester as adults. They each separately picked it, years apart, without knowing one another. They both chose this place, our place, Rochester.

As mid-life converts, they photograph the city and surrounding area with an outsider’s curious point of view, often capturing the glimmers in things we all walk or drive by daily and barely notice. Working with both film and digital output, each photographer shares the Rochester they have come to know and love, and to celebrate the photo community they have helped to build.

Convergence is on view May 1-30, with an opening reception this First Friday.
