Rebecca Maynard has been an integral part of Pittsford Fine Art since its opening. In addition to her artistic talents, Rebecca brings a wealth of experience and compassion as a mental health clinician and as the Vice President of Service Excellence at East House Inc., in Rochester, NY. Her dual passions for both healing and art intertwine in a unique and inspiring way, with her artistic practice serving as a deeply meditative and restorative process.

Rebecca’s artistic journey began in 2011, when she discovered the transformative power of painting. What started as a personal exploration quickly evolved into a lifelong pursuit of creative expression. Since then, she has continuously experimented with various mediums and techniques, constantly evolving her artistic process. Whether it’s watercolor, acrylics, oils, or alcohol inks, Rebecca thrives on exploring new ways to translate her inner vision onto the canvas. Her work is a dynamic and ever-changing exploration of color, texture, and form, with each medium offering new insights and opportunities for creative growth.

Rebecca’s approach to art is characterized by a spirit of adventure and innovation. She is not afraid to push boundaries, often experimenting with unconventional materials and methods. For example, she creates her own collage papers with a gelli plate and deli paper, and she hot wax on rice paper to create stunning watercolor batik paintings. Her use of masking fluids and tape allows her to preserve lightness and add intricate details, while synthetic YUPO paper enables the free-flowing movement of alcohol ink. Her acrylic paintings often feature striking, colorful cells created by torching the surface, adding an organic, unpredictable element to her work. Most recently, Rebecca has begun to explore the art of block printing, carving intricate designs into linoleum or rubber blocks and using ink to transfer her carvings onto various surfaces.

Rebecca’s creative process is often reflective and intuitive. She frequently lays down abstract layers of color, allowing the painting to evolve over time as she waits for the piece to reveal itself. This patience and mindfulness in her work are reflected in her use of negative painting techniques, where she paints around an object rather than directly painting it. This allows her to subtly highlight form and create a sense of depth and mystery within her compositions.

Nature and serenity are recurring themes in Rebecca’s work. Her paintings evoke a sense of calm, often drawing inspiration from the beauty of the natural world. Through her vivid use of color, she aims to stir emotions, spark memories, and inspire feelings of peace and joy. While many of her paintings are rooted in realism, Rebecca’s work occasionally incorporates abstract elements, blending the two styles to create a harmonious balance of clarity and fluidity.

Rebecca’s art is a visual expression of her belief in the power of creativity to heal, inspire, and connect. Whether through the deliberate stillness of a landscape or the energetic flow of abstract shapes, her work invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find their own moments of peace and wonder.
