Forging Alliances: A History of the LGBQT Communities in Rochester
Gallery Q
100 College Ave., #100
Jan 1, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The new LGBTQ Gallery at 100 College Avenue opens with a special 20 panel display that provides a historical overview of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities of Rochester. Did you know that in the 1970’s there were over a dozen “gay bars” in Rochester- and yet it was illegal in New York State to sell alcohol to “known homosexuals.” Archive pictures and brief narrative provide a fascinating journey from 1971 to today.  Located half a block from Village Gate, this new Gallery is located next door to RIT’s Gallery R and in the same building as Lumiere Photography.
