May 3, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Garth Fagan Dance is the region’s leading artist-led, predominately Black cultural institution that develops young dancers, especially those of color. Garth Fagan Dance is founded by the man who taught more than 100 million audience members to move as one global community through Disney’s The Lion King on Broadway! Under the creative leadership of PJ Pennewell, GFD champions a process to offset limited opportunities for these dancers with a potential for a professional career. With over 53 years of award-winning choreography, Garth Fagan Dance stands as a beacon of innovation, creativity, and artistic excellence in the world of contemporary dance. The company has recently been welcomed into the “Archives of the Library of Congress”, and has been referred to as a 20th Century dance treasure, and Garth as the longest-running Black Choreographer on Broadway.

For First Friday Rochester, you will get an intimate view of class progressions and the rehearsal process, with a 15 minute guided talk by the Executive Director, Natalie Rogers-Cropper.
