Cassandra Clark’s interests include textile art/fashion, mixed media, and sculpture. Her paintings are inspired by post-impressionism and expressionism. She loves portraits and figurative work, and incorporates many colors, marks, and textures. She usually paints in what she calls a “messy to refined” process. This is where she starts with messy layers of color and works her way up to a more detailed and recognizable subject. Cassandra’s paintings and painted textiles usually follow the same process, just on different surfaces. She recently painted a mural with this process and wants to continue working on a large scale. Cassandra often works in ceramic and papier mache for her sculptures. Her ceramic sculptures are sometimes glazed, but she prefers working with acrylic paint. Acrylics allow her to know exactly what she’s getting and achieve a bright, beautiful finish. For papier mache, she uses a paper clay in addition to paper and flour strips. Cassandra enjoys sculpting Jewish ritual objects.
