Jerry Alonzo uses a visual vocabulary of simple house forms, birds, boats, flowers, the character of the wood chosen, and engraved text; leveraging wood’s beauty to engage the viewer. With much of his work he pulls viewers into a discussion of a world that is often unfair yet beautiful.

The Pittsford Fine Art Gallery is a cooperative of 23 fine regional artists at 4 Main St., Pittsford. Jerry is proud to be September’s featured artist. Much of Jerry’s current work features found wood and objects that add a natural voice to a conversation honoring the ordinary. If you are looking to enhance your space with joyful, thought provoking and meticulous art, come and enjoy the display.

Another facet of these wood sculptures includes pieces that explore social and environmental justice in a fraught but beautiful world. An optimist by nature, Jerry creates art that may serve as a talisman to support your daily actions.

Jerry’s work reflects a life balancing law and woodworking. He has been a lawyer and judge for well over 40 years and has worked with wood even longer, first self-taught, later earning an MFA at RIT. These two paths co-existed separately for many years; eventually converging to enrich each other.
