Illuminate
“The Point” of Culver and Merchants Roads
1392 Culver Road
Aug 4, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Triangle neighborhood is joining forces with ImageOut Film Festival and Gallery Q to present Illuminate, a one-night only First Friday event to celebrate the LGBTQ community. This event will be held on at 1392 Culver Road, the building at “The Point” of Culver and Merchants Roads.

Illuminate will feature artists Katie Efstathiou, Citlali Fabián, and Chen Wang. The featured work centers on projection- and installation-based art that will bring unique life to a currently vacant space. Chen Wang’s animations come to life in incredible dimensions. Her work explores the otherworldly layers of habitat while commenting on gender norms and sexuality. Citlali Fabián has created a collection of work by Mexican photographers. Including Fabián’s own photographs, the images and text illustrate stories of traditions, culture, and heritage of Mexico. “Maybe Somewhere West”, Katie Efstathiou’s recent work, is a photographic installation where playful forms of landscape are used as a stage to question how the naming of place relates to stereotypes found within the gender binary. Together this work sheds new light on humanity in unique ways and generates progressive reflection.
