From the Artist: As an expressive figurative painter, I incorporate raw and gestural mark-making with moments of precision to create vulnerable portraits. Ranging from depictions of loved ones to women in magazines, I fluctuate between the urge to portray these individuals in a flattering light or distinctly distorted. I subconsciously and consciously explore both societal obsession and my own personal fixation with feminine beauty and apply that visual narrative to the subject matter. Concurrently, I invoke peculiar aesthetics, similar to figurative artists like Otto Dix and Alice Neel, to make not only a more intriguing artwork but a more intimate portrayal. Rather than create “pretty” portraits of women, I challenge the external and internal pressures placed on women to “have it all” and achieve perfection.
