a show of reimagined photos and flag paintings by Rob Servo

Rob Servo uses antique, found photos as his canvas in a series that he began 10 years ago.

Forgotten albumen prints and solar enlargements take on new lives as figures that live in a colorful, kaleidoscopic alternate universe. These portraits evoke humor, while giving a light hearted nod to pop culture.

Using a variety of materials including antlers and matches, Servo explores the flag as Icon. He states, “In this series I’m trying to see how far I can alter the image and still have it read as an American flag. What happens if I use different materials to make the flag such as matches or film. Would it still read as an American flag? Would it evoke a different feeling about the piece or the person who made it?”

“I know people have been making flags and drawing on photos for years but they are fun to make and that’s really what art is about for me.” – Rob Servo

portraits of people I’ve never met opens on Friday, April 7th, with a reception from 6-9.

The show will be on view until April 29th, Tuesday through Friday 10am-6pm and Saturdays 10-2.
