“It takes courage to make art.” Steve BonDurant’s adult students and his eleven-year-old niece commonly hear this. He’s been giving her weekly online art lessons for four years. “If it were easy, everyone would do it.”

Meet the May featured artist on First Friday, May 3, from 5-8pm. Steve will share his palette, method, vision, and sketchbooks.

BonDurant began his creative pursuits as a calligraphy student in the fourth grade, along with drawing, which launched his commercial endeavors and love for letterforms and other forms. As a youngster, Steve was fascinated by others who made a career in art.

Steve received support from educators from junior high school to college and beyond. His medical illustration degree from RIT contributed towards detail and discipline, and his study under Don Stone, NA, gave him a license to make impressions. BonDurant has painted outdoors since 1999, which developed his pursuit of fine art.

Steve has been recognized with frequent awards, including repeating Best of Show in the national juried exhibition at the Arts Center of Yates County in 2022 and 2023.

Pittsford Fine Art, a gallery owned and run by 23 prominent regional painters, is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 5 pm. Parking is available in front of the gallery, at 4 North Main Street, or in the nearby public parking lot.
